The monastery, built between 1197 and 1209 at Lauro, a medieval small town in Avellino province, became soon a place of agricultural production very famous for the quality of its products, and a place of spiritual refuge. In 1620 it became an Abbey and in the following century it had a new splendour thanks to a complete remake.
